25 years ago, Myth of Motivation was a wake-up call for management \u2013 but what remains of it today? And what does motivation look like in 2025?<\/p>\n

Incentives, bonuses, motivation programmes \u2013 many companies invest heavily in what they believe are the “right” levers. But do they actually work? Unfortunately, current figures reveal major issues: according to the Gallup Engagement Index Germany 2024, only around 9% of employees feel highly emotionally committed to their employer, while 78% are simply doing the bare minimum. This lack of engagement costs German companies up to \u20ac134 billion each year. The latest EY study also confirms a continuing decline in employee motivation across German organisations.<\/p>\n

In his bestselling book Myth of Motivation, Reinhard K. Sprenger challenged what was considered standard practice more than 25 years ago \u2013 and what is still widespread in many organisations today. His core thesis: all forms of motivation are actually demotivating.<\/p>\n

But what still holds true today? What has changed? And what is needed instead?<\/p>\n
